INGREDIENTS
Meat
- 🥩 1 pound ground beef
- 🐖 1 pound ground pork
- 🥓 5 slices bacon
Vegetables
- 🧅 1 onion, chopped
- 27 ounces sauerkraut, drained
- 1 medium head cabbage
- 🍅 1 (29 ounce) can diced tomatoes
Grains
- ½ cup cooked brown rice
Condiments and Spices
- 🧂 1 teaspoon salt
- black pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley
- 🧄 1 ¼ teaspoons garlic salt
- 2 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed tomato soup
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
Liquids
- 💧 3 cups water
STEPS
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bring a pot of water to a boil.
Mix ground beef and pork. Stir in onion, cooked rice, parsley, salt, pepper, garlic salt, and 1/2 can of tomato soup. Mix well.
Core the head of cabbage and boil until partially cooked. Separate the leaves and trim stems to reserve about 24-32 whole leaves. Roughly chop remaining leaves and line the bottom of a large roasting pan.
Pack a small portion of meat mixture into the center of a cabbage leaf. Fold, roll, and encase completely. Lay rolls on top of chopped cabbage in the pan. Add sauerkraut evenly over rolls, then lay bacon on top. Sprinkle with sugar.
Combine diced tomatoes, remaining tomato soup, and water. Pour over rolls. Add extra water if needed to cover the cabbage rolls completely.
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1.5 hours or until fully cooked.
