INGREDIENTS
Streusel Filling
- 1 ½ cups packed light brown sugar
- 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 6 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 ½ cups chopped pecans
Cake Batter
- 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ cups white sugar
- ½ cup solid vegetable shortening, at room temperature
- 🥚 2 large eggs
- 🥛 1 cup milk
STEPS
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Combine brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a bowl. Mix thoroughly with an electric mixer, then add melted butter and stir in pecans by hand to create the streusel filling.
Blend sifted flour, baking powder, and salt together in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, cream sugar, shortening, and eggs using an electric mixer. Gradually add milk and dry ingredients, mixing until batter is smooth.
Spread 1/4 of the batter into each of the prepared pans, layer with 1/4 streusel filling on top. Repeat the layering process once for even distribution.
Bake the cakes in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
